Conservatorium Hotel

Amsterdam

June 28, 2020

Amsterdam’s vibrant cultural hub, the Oud Zuid (Old South), has been undergoing a thorough refurbishment during recent years. The 19th Century building which now houses the Conservatorium Hotel was previously the Sweelink Music Conservatory, located at the heart of the Museumplein, close to the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum as well as trendy Van Baerlestraat and P. C. Hoofstraat.

The historic site has been given a complete makeover by Milan-based interior designer Piero Lissoni, whose signature style is a combination of sober colour schemes with bright contrasts. The building’s lofty ceilings have been used to maximum effect in the numerous duplexes in particular. The Residence Suites resemble the iconic Amsterdam townhouses, and are ideal for extended stays in this exciting city, while a fabulous 360 degree view can be enjoyed from the terrace of the I Love Amsterdam suite. All rooms and suites preserve unique architectural features, adding extra charm to an otherwise totally modern ambiance.

The Akasha Wellbeing Centre is one of the best in Amsterdam, offering a series of classical and holistic massages to both hotel guests and day visitors, including the famous Hot Seashell Massage. It features an 18 x 5m indoor pool, whirlpool, Hammam, sauna, Watsu pool and several relaxation areas.

Dutch chef Schilo Van Coevorden is executive chef at the hotel’s two restaurants: the award-winning Tunes, and the more casual – but nonetheless spectacular – Conservatorium Brasserie and Lounge.

Good to know

Since opening in 2011 the Conservatorium has repeatedly been awarded for its excellence in design and comfort by Condé Nast Traveller, Gault Millau, Life Style and Time Out Amsterdam among others. It is also an ecologically-aware establishment, being the first Dutch hotel to obtain the Green Globe International Standard for Sustainable Travel and Tourism certification.
